AI TEAM WORKSPACE
ModelCrew is a workspace for building a team of AI teammates around a project. Give each teammate a role, instructions and collaboration rules; select a supported underlying model; then direct the work through a Project Lead or speak to teammates directly. You stay in control of the decisions.
- Define jobs and teammates before picking models
- Keep teammate roles separate from the model underneath
- Review delegated work and direct the next round
What are you actually building?
An AI agent team is more than a collection of chatbots. Each teammate has a defined responsibility and receives relevant project context. A lead can divide a larger task among specialists and combine their contributions into a usable deliverable.
For example, you might create a research analyst, a critical reviewer and a communications specialist. The researcher gathers evidence, the reviewer probes assumptions, and the communications teammate adapts an approved conclusion for its audience. The human owns the objective and the final decision.
Example: an AI team for a product launch
Illustrative workflow
- 1You define the project and success criteria
- 2Research teammate prepares the market brief
- 3Strategy teammate challenges the assumptions
- 4Project Lead reviews and synthesizes the recommendations
- 5You approve, redirect or request another round
The point is not that five AI calls automatically produce a better answer. The point is that each contribution has a purpose, a context and a review step. Depending on the task, a single teammate may be enough.
How to build your AI team in ModelCrew
- 1. Create a project — Define the objective, audience, constraints and reference materials. This is the shared working context.
- 2. Configure teammates — Give each teammate a specific job, behavioral instructions, response style and collaboration expectations.
- 3. Select models — Choose from the models enabled for your workspace. Model choice is separate from teammate identity; availability and supported abilities vary.
- 4. Decide how to collaborate — Address an individual teammate directly or use Project Lead coordination where enabled; decide when the crew should seek your approval.
- 5. Evaluate the output — Inspect evidence, catch mistakes, give direction and rerun only the work that needs improvement.
How is this different from opening multiple AI chats?
| Question | Separate chat applications | ModelCrew approach |
|---|---|---|
| Where does the role live? | Usually in the individual conversation or app configuration. | In the teammate configuration inside the project. |
| Who coordinates work? | Typically you copy information between chats and compare outputs. | Project Lead coordination and approvals where the workflow is enabled. |
| Can the underlying model change? | Move to another app and recreate needed context. | Change the selected model without recreating the teammate configuration. |
| Do you get every native app feature? | Provider apps offer their own native features. | No; features depend on what ModelCrew and providers support. |
If you only need a single answer, a native AI app is simpler. A team workspace becomes more useful when the same roles contribute repeatedly to a multi-step project.
Where the human stays in control
- Set a clear objective and permission boundaries before delegation.
- Ask for evidence, sources and explicit uncertainty on consequential claims.
- Review synthesized answers instead of assuming an agent checked everything.
- Keep approval points for decisions, external actions and continued autonomous exchanges.
- Watch usage: additional models and review rounds increase consumption.
What to know about the beta
ModelCrew is being developed and tested as a private beta. Not every catalog provider or feature is necessarily enabled for collaborative Crew workflows. The product uses a platform-managed model-access and credits approach for its initial launch; connecting a personal provider API key is not part of the initial launch plan.
ModelCrew is not a foundation-model provider, and it does not replace the consumer interfaces of ChatGPT or Claude. Model behavior, available tools and output quality depend on the selected model and supported integrations.
Frequently asked questions
Can I build an AI agent team without writing code?
ModelCrew is designed as a visual workspace for defining teammates, instructions and collaboration. Which flows are available depends on beta release status.
Can one teammate change from an OpenAI model to a Claude model?
Where both models are enabled for that workflow, the teammate configuration can remain while the selected underlying model changes. Responses may differ.
Will the AI team run indefinitely without supervision?
No. The intended experience includes bounded collaboration and human review or approval points.
Does a larger AI team always get better results?
No. Multiple models increase work and usage. A smaller crew or a single model may be more effective for a straightforward task.
